The course will discuss: the defects in solids, surfaces, and interfaces, solidification, metallic glasses, diffusion, atomic mechanisms of diffusion, high-diffusivity paths; diffusion in multiphase binary systems; diffusional transformations in solids.

Course Description :

This course covers the physical principles underlying semiconductor devices operation. An emphasis on understanding of device operation rather than on circuit properties will be given. The course topics will in-clude: elementary excitations in semiconductors such as phonons, pho-tons, conduction electrons, and holes, built-in electric field, the PN junc-tion, the junction transistor, Schottky barrier diodes, The MIS diode and the MOSFET, ohmic and non-ohmic contacts, Schottky diode fabrica-tion and applications, surface effects. Application of nanotechnology in electronic and photonic devices will be discussed.
