Electron theory of metals and its applications, Atomic structure and atomic bonds in solids––crystallography – X-ray diffraction – Microstructure and structural defects: vacancies – dislocations – Solid solution – Phases - grain boundaries – secondary phases –Defects –Dislocation-Diffusion. Dimensional changes due to elastic and plastic deformation –Nanostructure – Mechanical, electrical, chemical activity, thermal, optical and magnetic properties/structure relationship.
