Faculty : Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences
School : Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering
Course Description :
Survey of human body structure and function. Starting at biological macro-molecules, levels of organization, cells, tissues and ending at the level of human body systems (skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive systems). Topics include human inheritance (from chromosomes to biotechnology), human reproduction (male and female anatomy and physiology), fetal development and birth. Students will be introduced as well to the genome structure and function, gene expression, protein synthesis, proteomics, and transcriptomics and role in human biology. For the Lab part, students will be introduced to the laboratory equipment. The goal of this lab is to get students to be acquainted with the different technologies that produced data such as sequences and real time PCR. Students will be performing laboratory work that include, bacterial growth using incubator, DNA isolation, RNA isolation, Protein isolation, electrophoresis of the three macro molecules, conventional PCR, Real time PCR, Sequencing of isolated DNA fragment.
